Lena Ching is a well-established pianist and teacher in Singapore, who has taught, developed, and mentored numerous students and young performers from her private studio, LASALLE College of the Arts, and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA). An alumna of the Royal College of Music in London where she majored in both Piano and Harpsichord, she counts herself as one of the privileged beneficiaries of her teachers Yonty Solomon, Phyllis Sellick and Ruth Dyson in the RCM, as well as Victor Doggett during her formative years in Singapore.
Having been a prize-winning student herself, her students have also won numerous prizes at local and overseas competitions, while many have become highly successful and illustrious professional musicians with a deep passion for music. Amid a flourishing career, Lena’s interest in musical development led her to pursue the Master of Arts in ‘Psychology for Musicians’ from the University of Sheffield (UK).
Lena’s professional experiences included numerous opportunities to perform as a soloist, concerto soloist, chamber musician, and as an accompanist. She has frequently been invited to adjudicate music competitions (locally and overseas), teach in masterclasses and workshops, as well as to conduct talks and seminars on music education, particularly in the field of developing musical talent and abilities in students, as well as performing arts well-being.
Lena served as Head of Keyboard Studies in NAFA’s School of Music from 2015, and then as Vice Dean since 2020. She continues to be greatly inspired by aspiring young musicians from all parts of the world, as she passionately engages in teaching and mentoring students of various age groups, with a special interest in the development of natural abilities as well as the professional careers of those in the industry.
