Armen Babakhanian has appeared as soloist with numerous orchestras, working under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle, Yuri Temirkanov, and Valery Gergiev, among many others. As a pianist, he was a prize winner for the Leeds, Van Cliburn, Guardian Dublin, William Kappell, Gina Bachauer, and the World Piano Competitions. His festival appearances include the Aspen, Interlochen, Santander, and Baalbec Music festivals. His performance of the Shostakovich Piano Quintet with the Takács Quartet during Santander Festival in Spain was named the best chamber music performance of the festival. Mr. Babakhanian’s recent recording of Complete Piano Works by Aram Khachaturian awarded the "Best Classical Album of the Year" at the Armenian Awards 2007.


As a pedagogue, he was a Professor with the Komitas State Conservatory (Yerevan), and the Dean of Piano Department at the Yerevan State Conservatory. He has also served as a jury member for a number of high profile piano competitions, and has taught masterclasses in Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Switzerland, France, Finland, Lithuania, Guatemala, Ukraine, Thailand, and Malaysia. His great contribution to the Spyurk-Armenia relations also led to his award of Gold Medal by the Armenian Ministry of Culture (2008) and the Artist Emeritus award from the President of the Republic of Armenia (2009).
