A native of Penang, Malaysia, Sylvia Wang serves on the piano and chamber music faculty of Northwestern University in the U.S. Her work as soloist, chamber musician, guest teacher and adjudicator has taken her across the U.S., Europe, Central and South America, Asia and Australia. Dr. Wang holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, and the Royal Academy of Music in London, including an honorary Associateship for "distinction in the field." She has recorded for the Newport Classic, CRI, Northeastern and Boston records labels. Her students have won prestigious prizes and fellowships in the U.S., Canada, Japan and China and occupy performing and teaching positions in the Americas as well as Asia. She returns regularly to Asia to teach and perform, with recent engagements at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory in Singapore and a 6-city tour of China. She is a strong advocate of concerts for young children and has taken her animal-themed concerts to different centres throughout Malaysia and Singapore.
